Chicken Processing Workshop
Sunday October 19th 9am - 1pm
$50 / Person Active participant (take home your own processed chicken)
$25 / Person observing only
Have you ever wondered what it's like to raise, process and enjoy farm fresh chicken??? Have you considered raising your own food but don't know where to start??? Join us for a day on the farm as we take you step by step, from where to purchase chicks, their housing, feed and care requirements, to how we process our own poultry so that we can enjoy it during the long New England winters! There are two ways to participate in this class:
1) Audit: This choice allows individuals to audit the class. Each auditor takes part in discussions and observes the processing portion of the demonstration but keeps their hands clean. This is a great option for those who are curious about raising their own poultry and what it takes to complete the butchering process. $25 per person 10 spots available Reserve your spot today!
2) Active Participant: Each active participant will take part in all discussions AND take a hands-on role. Active participants will purchase a live bird, and will be guided through the entire butchering process alongside us. Each active participant takes home their processed and packaged chicken at the end of the day! $50 per person (includes live bird purchase) 10 spots available Reserve your spot with this link!
FALL TURKEY DEPOSITS
Mushroom Foraging Workshop
Saturday, October 11th
It’s time for our last mushroom foraging workshop in 2025 at Foxx Run Farm! The fall mushrooms are in season. Join us as mushroom hunter and enthusiast Colleen Gardiner leads us on a mushroom Foraging walk! Develop your mushroom ID skills and learn how to recognize different forest types that may lead you to certain mushrooms. We never eat a mushroom unless we are 100% sure of its identity, a common phrase is often repeated "if in doubt toss it out". That said, there are plenty of excellent edible mushrooms that you can learn to ID which don't have poisonous look-a-likes and are delicious! It could be chilly so dress in layers. This is a rain or shine event. It is rocky terrain and likely to be muddy so wear boots. We will go off trail on the walk. It's a good idea to bring a water bottle and snack in a backpack. Bring a basket or bucket to carry harvested mushrooms. To reserve your spot, head to our farm store and purchase your tickets. Location: 1912 Pequawket Trail, Hiram, ME 04041
